All events will take place at the hotel unless otherwise noted. The conference is business casual for all events. The agenda below is subject to modification. The savings landscape is evolving, with new federal initiatives introducing additional tools for families to build long-term financial security. This panel will examine how Trump Accounts fit alongside existing retirement savings vehicles and 529 education savings plans, exploring where these accounts complement one another, where they overlap, and what they mean for states, families, and financial institutions. Panelists will discuss the latest federal policy developments, implementation considerations, and strategies for helping savers navigate multiple tax-advantaged accounts to achieve education, retirement, and broader financial goals.

Join us for a timely keynote exploring the national economic outlook and the transformation of the automotive industry through low-carbon and automated transportation. Our speaker will connect these trends to their broader implications for state economies, workforce development, and infrastructure investment, providing State Treasurers and their staff with valuable insights to inform policy decisions and long-term fiscal planning.

10:15-11:15 AM Plenary Session – Unclaimed Property 2026: The Advocacy Imperative for State Treasurers
Building on last year’s discussion of the legal and legislative challenges facing state programs, this session shifts the focus to our unified national response. This panel takes you to the front lines of recent advocacy work, from fighting true escheat proposals to federal-level engagement on complex securities issues. Attendees will learn how to connect with NAUPA resources to reframe and promote their state program as vital consumer protection efforts.

11:30 AM-12:15 PM – Plenary Session – Looking Back, Leading Forward: Insights from Outgoing State Treasurers
As several State Treasurers conclude their terms in office, join us for a candid conversation reflecting on the challenges, accomplishments, and lessons that shaped their service. Panelists will share personal stories, leadership insights, and practical takeaways from their time in office. Whether you are a newly elected or seasoned Treasurer, or a member of the NAST community, this sessions offers a unique opportunity to learn from those who have served and celebrate their contributions to the profession.

12:15-1:30 PM – Networking Lunch 

1:45-3:15 PM – Workshop Hosted by Trump Account Working Group
During this time, participants will take a deeper look into the intersection of Trump accounts and other financial products available to Americans. There will be discussion about what the role of State Treasurers should be in assisting families in the complex market of tools. Be ready for an active participation of “what’s next?”.

6:30-8:30 PM – Dinner at Ford Field. Ford Field is a 10-15 minute walk from the Westin.

Wednesday, September 30

8:00-8:45 AM – Networking Breakfast

9:30-11:00 AMFord Rouge Factory Tour
Attendees will have the opportunity to travel to Dearborn to visit the Ford Factory and watch the Ford F-150 assembly line in action. Located at the Henry Ford Museum, the tour covers automotive history, innovative manufacturing, and sustainable design. Buses will leave from the hotel at 9am and the tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours. Following the tour, buses will take attendees either directly to the airport, or back to the Westin. If you plan to join us for the tour, please wear comfortable walking shoes.

The Annual Conference is being held at the Westin Book Cadillac located at 1114 Washington Blvd. The hotel is a 25 minute cab ride from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW). All events will take place at the hotel unless otherwise noted.

Rooms are available at the Westin for $279/night and can be reserved here

Attendees can also call 888.627.7150 and ask for the NAST Annual Conference room block. Rooms are available at this rate until September 4, 2026.

Annual Conference Service Project 

Thanks to our Michigan Treasury hosts, this year we are partnering with The Park West Foundation. Attendees will have the opportunity to stuff backpacks at the Westin, which will be donated to Southeast Michigan foster youth.
